Mark Donoghue is a professor at the University of the Arts in London. His interest in Asian cultures, especially in the Japanese language, movies and animations, has influenced his work; he was inspired by Meisho (a well known ukiyoe print) and experimented with the idea of combining it with the landscapes of his homeland, Scotland.
